Overview

The modernization of Most Railway Station presented a rare opportunity to redefine a major civic gateway while respecting one of the Czech Republic’s most significant examples of late-modernist transport architecture. The client’s challenge was clear: to introduce new high-speed rail infrastructure and contemporary passenger facilities while preserving the spatial clarity, openness, and cultural value of the existing station complex.

Our design responds by treating the station not as an isolated building, but as a connected public landscape — where movement, light, and visibility shape the passenger experience. The proposal strengthens the role of the main hall as a generous civic interior, enhances intuitive connections to the new platforms, and introduces a new bridge that offers a direct, legible, and uplifting journey across the tracks.

Rooted in the architectural language of the original station and its 1970s modernist context, the design reinterprets familiar elements — transparency, rhythm, and structure — through contemporary forms and environmental intelligence. The inclined glazed façade improves daylight, reduces glare and summer overheating, and supports indoor planting, creating a calmer, healthier atmosphere for passengers while lowering operational energy demand.
